Abstract
This chapter analyses the basic characteristics of the diagnostic process being one of the focal activities of the scientist-practitioner. Three issues are discussed: the relationship between professional diagnostic decision making and ethical standards, the cognitive flaws and biases of decision making, and the measures that can be taken to improve diagnostic accuracy.
